With specialty compounding, it is possible to add glow-in-the-dark characteristics to plastic. It is not only possible to make plastic glow, but the intensity, color, and duration of glow can all be customized depending on the needs of an individual.
Glow-in-the-dark products work perfectly for a wide variety of applications that include:
Glow-in-the-dark polymers have phosphorescent pigments that absorb ultraviolet light. The polymers then slowly emit that energy over time. Although it is possible to use color with glow-in-the-dark plastic, clear and translucent colors give off the best glow properties. Glow-in-the-dark also works best when pairing with certain resins systems, which include:
The first type is activated differently than standard grade glow-in-the-dark polymers. This type can activate quickly while requiring less sunlight than other types. Type one is best used for an application that requires short exposure to light or is exposed to a light source with low UV output. Typical applications include safety markings for emergency workers, release handles on vehicles, home products, and tunnel evacuation routing.
Type two lighting needs a minimum of one hour of high UV light to become fully charged. A typical application includes outdoor signs, exit signs, and safety equipment.
We will work with you to custom tailor a glowing process that meets your application needs. We offer both custom masterbatches and specialty compounding.
