Specialty Compounding for Masterbatch or Pellets

Acquiring color plastic is important for businesses to color coat and distinguish their products. There are several ways to color plastic, but some are more ideal than others. The two most commonly employed methods of engineering colored plastic is masterbatch and pigments. Those who are not familiar with the ins-and-outs of plastic resin supplying, commonly mess up the difference between masterbatch and pigments. Although they are related, they are not the same.  In many cases, masterbatch is ideal. Benefits associated with using masterbatch over pellets include:

Specialty Compounding
  1. Pellet Form: masterbatch comes in pellet form, which makes it easier to store, move, and manipulate than powdered pigments.
  2. Simple Feeding: feeding and handling during manufacturing is simplified.
  3. Health Issues: as a pigment is being manufactured, it becomes airborne. This can contaminate adjacent manufacturing lines and be harmful to breath.
  4. Optimal Dispersion: masterbatch is ideally designed for total dispersion inside a polymer matrix. This contributes to ubiquitous color distribution in final products.
  5. Matched Polymer: binding agents that are found with masterbatch can be matched to polymers being used in the product. This improves the melting process.
  6. Color Consistency: from lot to lot, and even within a lot, masterbatch offers a more consistent color.
